Episode #2.1: "The Return"

Season 2 Begins September 9, 2010

Here are the spoilers that are out so far for Season 2. Some spoilers here might go beyond the premiere...

Jonathan Gilbert will be appearing in the Season 2 premiere: Don't count David Anders' Jonathan Gilbert out of Season 2 just yet. The actor confirms to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that he will be in the Season 2 premiere. Beyond that?

“That’s up in the air right now,” he says. “They haven’t picked up [my] option yet. I feel like the character has a lot of legs and you can go in many different directions with him. But ultimately it’s [executive producer] Kevin Williamson’s choice.”

Things looked grim for Uncle John in the season finale, but Anders does remind, “People don’t always die from knife wounds.”

taylorMeet Tyler's Uncle: Executive Producer Julie Plec has told TVGuide.com that Mayor Lockwood's younger brother is coming to town. "Our big new addition is Mason Lockwood, the mayor's much younger and cooler brother, who has been estranged from the family,"she says. "His return introduces a lot of questions about what is so special about that creepy Lockwood family."

UPDATE (7/9/10): The role of Mason Lockwood has been cast, as revealed by Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. Mason will be played by Trauma actor Taylor Kinney (yep, another werewolf who's a Tyler or a Taylor). He'll be making his first appearance in the Sept. 9 season premiere, and you can see a picture of him to your right.

Carter (Posted 7/9/10): Casting is currently underway for the role of Carter, a "handsome and rugged" African-American carnival worker who flirts with Bonnie and picks a fight with Tyler. The role is said to be shooting between July 23 and August 3.

POSTED 7/18/10: The second season premiere will be titled "The Return."

POSTED 7/22/10: Some details about a character being cast for the third episode of Season Two: The Vampire Diaries is currently casting for the role of "Aimee," who is described as "sweet, sexy, fun, and filled with flirt." She is interested in Matt and finds an enemy in Caroline. It's a guest role that is possibly recurring, and it "must look good in a bikini."
- In the same episode, Tyler is having a party and it's the night of a full moon. Spooky, scary...

The Official CW Description for "The Return" (Posted 8/20/10): KATHERINE HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE — Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) is comforted by Matt (Zach Roering), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) while she waits to hear if Caroline (Candice Accola) will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler (Michael Trevino) is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood (guest star Taylor Kinney, “Trauma”), arrives to console the family. Sara Canning also stars. Posted on VampireSite.net - please place a link to the source. J. Miller Tobin directed the episode written by Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec (#201).
